Oral collagen is crucial for firmly anchoring teeth in the bone and for healthy gums. If these degradation processes remain undetected, they may develop into periodontitis in the late phase, leading to visible bone resorption, gum loss, and tooth loss.

A review of the aMMP-8 values of your oral immune system allows us to detect hidden (subclinical) “Active Periodontal Degeneration (APD)” by way of your elevated enzyme level (aMMP-8).
This means that, by activating the enzyme aMMP-8, your immune system has begun to break down the collagenous tissue of your periodontium. This process, also called “collagenolysis”, is normally a protective response by the body to ward off pathogenic (illness-causing) dental germs. The cause of this is usually subclinical plaque in which these germs have embedded themselves. If these are not regularly professionally removed, your immune system will shed the entire tooth by breaking down the holding apparatus. This process is known as periodontitis and leads to the loss of teeth. In addition, the dental germs can enter the bloodstream and stress organs, prostheses or even the entire body.
If detected in time, the appropriate secondary prevention can stop collagen destruction and inflammation at an early stage. The tissue can then regenerate and the immune system is alleviated.

We have two test versions available for aMMP-8 analysis. Depending on your current situation, digital analysis is possible by means of a rinsing test. This acts as a screening for all of your own teeth and can diagnose early collagen degradation.
