Ion-based oral care
The PerioSafe® Care system includes PerioSafe® Oral Health Toothpaste and the PerioSafe ® Oral Health Mouthwash. Both products are antimicrobially effective thanks to microsilver, pure silver particles with a high surface area. These are suitable for permanent use to control oral biofilm between professional cleanings.
What is microsilver?
Microsilver (MicroSilver BG™) is an innovative, physical form of metallic silver. It is based on highly pure, elemental silver which is imparted with a special sponge-like surface structure in a physical process developed by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. In contrast to silver salts, microsilver has a depot effect and continuously releases silver ions (Ag+). In vitro studies confirmed that the oral mucosa itself is impermeable to the microsilver since the latter is composed of silver aggregates with a large surface and is not nanosilver or colloidal silver.
How does microsilver work?
Numerous studies confirm the antimicrobial effect of silver ions (Ag+) that are even effective against antibiotic-resistant microorganisms (MRSA), fungi and biofilms. The silver ions react with protein structures, e.g. on the exterior of bacteria, permanently impairing their energy production and material transfer. Microorganisms develop virtually no defense mechanisms against this. The effect persists for a period of up to 12 hours, e.g. after brushing with PerioSafe ® Oral Health Toothpaste. This is ideal for suppressing nighttime bacterial growth.
PerioSafe® Care is the first oral health system that is ideally suited to play a support role in the treatment of implant and periodontitis patients and chronically ill persons with diabetes, rheumatism, cardiovascular diseases. as well as women who want to have children.
What are the results of clinical trials?
Clinical studies have shown that the use of products containing microsilver significantly decreases bacteria in the oral cavity that cause periodontitis after only 6 weeks and produces a marked improvement in inflammatory parameters.

Which ingredients do PerioSafe ®Oral Health Toothpaste and Mouthwash contain?
- Antimicrobial active microsilver prevents inflammation and inhibits plaque build-up (dental plaque is the leading cause of periodontal inflammation)
- Provitamin Panthenol supports the regeneration of the gums
- Zinc gluconate has an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect
- Sodium fluoride* hardens enamel and reduces the risk of caries
* Sodium fluoride is only included in PerioSafe ® toothpaste, not in the mouthwash
The PerioSafe care system is approved as a cosmetic. The associated safety assessment indicates that the products can be used during pregnancy.
